Unfortunately, Atom is also quite infamous for its speed, or lack thereof, and for being bloated due to the usage of Electron. It is quite similar to VSCode, but it is more of a traditional text editor and less of an IDE. You can configure nearly every aspect of the text editing experience. Atom ( free) - Atom is the original Electron app, and an incredibly flexible editor. It runs pretty fast for an Electron app, has an incredible plugin ecosystem, and includes some advanced IDE-like features (autocomplete, debugging). Visual Studio Code ( free) - This text editor/light IDE from Microsoft is probably the most popular programming utility on the Mac.It’s very fast, due to it being built with C++. Sublime Text ( $80, free trial lasts forever and just nags every 20 file saves) This editor strikes a middle ground between the features of Atom and the stability of BBEdit. In that way, it is quite similar to Notepad++. Sadly, some newer features, like multi-cursor support and it does not have that many plugins.
Advanced Notepad Code Editor OnThis editor has a quite steep learning curve, but it is possible to learn it with the vimtutor command, and vim Adventures. It is famous for a huge amount of plugins, completely unrivaled speed, a well-liked modal design, and it being notoriously difficult to exit without saving it’s :q!. vim (pre-installed, newer version available on brew) - This editor is a clone of the classic vi code editor on Unix systems.![]() ![]() ![]()
